Eau Baume du Doge

Eau Baume du Doge

The perfume did not have the best of reviews but it managed to come through on the merits of its presentation and the friendliness of the scent. Although it is not one of those perfumes that arrests the person and refuses to let them go, the perfume is good on its merits and deserves its place in the fashion books. The dynamic duo of Bertrand Duchaufour and Baume du Doge has made a good run on this one. It seems that it will make a great impact on the industry as whole.

The Brand

Baume du Doge is based on an Italian tradition and it fits in nicely with the stereotype of rich luxury and stylish exuberance. It is one of the rich perfumes that are making it on the circuit and causing a bit of a stir amongst the general public and people who pay attention to these sorts of things. There is a good mix of the extravagant and the tasteful to keep the customers guessing. That was the original intention and it seems to have worked out well.

The Fragrance

The perfume contains sweet orange, bergamot, fennel, myrrh, frankincense, cinnamon, coriander, saffron, clove, cardamom, black pepper, benzoin, vanilla, vetiver and cedar. This is a challenging combination but there is method to the madness as the final product turned out quite well. It remains to be seen whether the people will be able to pick up on the subtle variations in the fragrance. They might turn out to be too subtle for their tastes.

The Packaging

It is not a particularly inspiring packaging with a cluttered look that gives the impression of a curtain that is past its best. However it is not so cluttered that it detracts from the central aspects of the perfume. Nevertheless I think that they missed an opportunity to make a real impact with the packaging on this one.

General Customer Feedback

The customers felt that it was a rich perfume that somehow reminded them of fruits. However ther was a group that felt that it could have been made spicier by the creation of different scents that evoked the exotic and different. Instead it went for the Italian tradition.

Jasmin from Bruno Acampora

Jasmin from Bruno Acampora

Jasmin is the latest creation from the little known perfume oil maker Bruno Acampora. The perfume is based on a concept of evening tide and childhood memories. Apparently it is supposed to remind one of honey or a first meeting . These are lofty sentiments indeed but I am not entirely sure that the perfume is able to live with them. I personally believe that this is a very decent perfume that would not go amiss in a gift cabinet but it is not one that I would break the house down for.

The Brand

The Bruno Acampora house specializes in perfume oils so it might not be very famous with the perfume connoisseurs who tend to go for the water based colognes. However it has been going for a good forty years so they must be doing something right. Their modus operandi is to titillate the senses of those who buy their product.

The Fragrance

The fragrance is fairly simple in as much as it is dominated by jasmine. You really cannot go wrong with jasmine because it instantly creates a perfume from nothing. However I tend to prefer a bit more imagination from my perfumes. On the other hand some people cannot abide complicated perfumes because  they do not give them a direct message. The message from jasmine is as direct as can be. There other fairly unique notes of cyclamen, cloves and ylang ylang. This gives the perfume a spicy oriental feel which is part of the exotic mix that works so well for so many fragrances.

The Packaging

The perfume comes in a silver box and rests on a motif of pink. The bottle is relatively small but has a floral print of pink highlights. I think this is an excellent idea and that pink is almost orange in the hue such that you have obvious femininity but with a twist. I am afraid that the packaging of the perfume outranks its smell. Whether this is a good or bad thing is another matter.

General Customer Feedback

I hate to say this but many of the customers were distinctly underwhelmed by the perfume. They could not find anything inherently wrong but they did not feel that the perfume had the wow factor. I personally take a slightly different view. It is neither possible nor desirable to have a full on high end perfume every time you review something. Some perfumes simple and we ought to appreciate them in their simplicity.
