Guerlain Tonka Imperiale
Thierry Wasser from Guerlain house introduces this new exciting perfume. It promises to be one of those modern classics that will generally last a long time. The launch has been quiet but I am sure it will pick up when they are ready to launch it onto the international stage. It is quite ambiguous in terms of gender but in fact it is a lady’s perfume. Maybe this is a marketing trick to prime the unsuspecting gentlemen for the launch of the male version.
The Brand
Guerlain l’Art is a relatively unknown French house that does create a long line of perfumes. This is the seventh edition of this particular series and from all accounts it is rather spectacular. They pride themselves on showing off the very best of modern fashion without resorting to some of the more outlandish tactics employed by the more established fashion houses. I tend to prefer that brands are relatively unknown so Guerlain is just fine by me.
The Fragrance
The fragrance list is impressive and is not for those who have conservative tastes in terms of their perfumes. The fragrance starts off with a strong smell of honey which then develops into a number of spices. The confectionery mode continues with some vanilla, soft almond and ends in tobacco of all things. Perhaps one of the more shocking claims by the Thierry is that the perfume is meant to be somewhere between chocolate and ginger bread. Now that is bakery rather than perfumery.
The Packaging
The packaging is extremely luxurious with a golden bottle topped by a contraption that looks something like a Marylyn Monroe dress. The labels are written in black and I think the combination of the two is classic elegance personified. This is packaging that you would normally associate with the very top fashion houses but somehow it seems quite at home here and credit must be given to the designers for making so much out of a small perfume bottle.
General Customer Feedback
The customers were very excited by the prospect of this new perfume although there was some apprehension about the chocolate issue. Some worried that the number of ingredients would simply be too much for the ordinary person. It was more of a nervous expectation rather than an outright rejection of the perfume. Nearly all the comments were fully complimentary of the brand itself.
