Tuscan Soul Perfume from Ferragamo

This is a unisex scent that aims to combine an almost floral femininity with a sharp citrus tang that perhaps they imagined would be more suitable for men. The perfume is primarily to be worn in spring and summer which gives the impression that it is indeed a perfume for happy times and sensual indulgence.

The Brand

I have done some previous Ferragamo brands so you will probably be aware of the brand. Essentially it is a family business that started making high quality shoes then moved on to accessories and high end perfumes such as Tuscan Soul. However every effort is being made to establish a connection with the specialist perfume makers such as Christian Dior.

The Fragrance

The fragrance is rather elaborate for such a small town sort of operation. There are hints of bergamot and lemon which then drifts into magnolia. The problem with such an elaborate perfume is that it can fail to deliver on its promise of a truly gender neutral perfume. In any case I have always been of the view that a perfume should be either male or female. These duality schemes are not to my taste.

The History

This perfume is born out of the desperation of the Ferragamo brand to venture out into the risky world of perfumery. However I must say that the few samples that I have had the pleasure to review are quite impressive and I would not be surprised at all to see the perfume growing into a major brand in the future.

The Packaging

This is a very pale and clean bottle topped with an elegant copper top. I think that sometimes simplicity can say everything that needs to be said. This is one of those occasions when a perfume has to understated in order to speak of its possibilities.

General Customer Feedback

The reviews are ecstatic; particularly from the women who feel that the perfume embodies all that they think is Tuscany. They also tend to believe that it is a truly unisex perfume although the men are rather more reserved. All in all this is an excellent perfume that needs time to grow.
